What is CLOW: Children’s Liturgy of the Word?
At Children’s Liturgy of the Word, the Sunday scripture readings are proclaimed and explained on a level appropriate to children in grades pre-K (3 yo) – 4th during the 10:30 am Sunday Mass.
The children gather with their leaders in the front of the altar after the Opening Prayer and are sent forth by the presider.
They process to the Religious Ed Center.
After a brief Welcome and Opening Prayer, they listen to the First Reading proclaimed from the Children’s Lectionary.
They are then led in singing a Psalm and Gospel Acclamation.
Next, the Gospel is proclaimed with an age-appropriate reflection on the Word shared by the leader through stories, discussions, or pictures – whatever the leader finds most appropriate to conveying the meaning of the scriptures. The children are then invited to share their own thoughts and ideas.
Following this, the children profess a simple Act of Faith, pray their Prayers of Intercession, and finally return to their families at the time of the Presentation of the Gifts.
Any child in this age group may participate – no registration is necessary.
Currently, we only have leadership to offer CLOW about twice a month, September through May. By increasing the volunteers on the team, we may offer CLOW more frequently.
Our Faith Formation programs require faithful adults to lead groups of children in lessons and prayers. Are YOU being called to consider volunteering in one of these roles?*
-CLOW Leader: CLOW Leaders use provided resources to teach children about the Liturgy of the Word during mass. The CLOW team cooperates to instruct young children in listening and prayerfully responding to the Word of the Lord.
* Child and Youth Protection Virtus Certification is required for all Faith Formation Volunteers.
* *Guardians who volunteer as Catechists are granted free tuition; and volunteer Classroom Assistants are granted reduced tuition for their children.
