Seasonal Prayers

Prayer for Advent
Dear God,
as an Advent candle is lit
in joyous anticipation of your Son's nativity,
remind us always of the reason for our joy.
As the purple of the candles stand for both penance
and atonement for sin,
give us the grace to do penance for our wrongs,
and to love Christ,
whose sacrifice atoned for the sins of the whole world.
But just as the rose candle stands
for joy in the midst of suffering and expectation,
give us the joy of your Son, Jesus Christ,
who came into a world that had so longed for its Savior,
and made the angels themselves sing with joy at his birth.
Amen.

Prayer at Christmas
Lord, on this Christmas Day,
in the midst of the joy of our celebrations,
help us recall what is truly important about this day.
In the midst of opening presents,
help us remember the love that each gift represents.
In the midst of Christmas dinner,
help us remember that you are the source of all life.
In the midst of family gatherings,
help us remember that you are the fullness of all joy.
And in the midst of Christmas Mass,
help us remember the supreme act of love, sacrifice,
and humility that we celebrate on this Christmas day
when your Son came as a helpless, unknown baby
and grew to be the life and light of the world.
Amen.

Common prayers of the Catholic Church

Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen

Hail Mary
Hail Mary full of grace
Our Lord is with you
Blessed are you
Blessed is your child Jesus
Holy Mary Mother of God
Pray for us your children Now
And at the hour of our death.
Amen

Glory be to the Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

The third day He arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.

Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

THE MEMORARE
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
